Tanner Stage Calculator for Boys

Version 1.4

This is an experimental program attempting to determine your stage of development. The results will only be as accurate as the answers which you give. Do not expect this to substitute for the accurate answers a doctor could give you concerning your growth. This tool makes no record of the information given unless you choose to submit a correction at the end.

Looking at the chart on the right and using a ruler to make sure the scale is approximately correct, my testicles are about:

Estimated Tanner Stage:

What does the number mean?

Dr. Tanner divided development into five stages:

Stage 1: Is childhood. It lasts from birth until puberty.

Stage 2: Begins from the first external signs of puberty to your growth spurt.

Stage 3: This is the period when you grow the most quickly.

Stage 4: Starts when the rapid growth slows down and ends when you stop growing in height.

Stage 5: Is full physical maturity. There is still some development going on, but the growth in height has stopped and your body has reached its adult shape.

Details of each stage can be found below. The calculator uses the physical characteristics you report to make the same assessment a doctor would make in determining how far you have developed. Thus, a "2.1" would mean that you just started showing signs of entering adolescence, a "3.5" would mean you are right in the middle of your growth spurt, while a "4.8" would mean that you are just about done physically developing.

Are you curious as to what each stage of development brings? The following pages give a description about the changes which happen in each Tanner stage.

Want to Help Improve the Calculator?

If you think the estimate was off and you would like to help improve the calculator, take a look at the description and images of the five stages and decide which one more closely fits you. Then make sure the form above is filled out (so I can have a record of your answers to consider) then fill in the following:

Which stage do you think you are in? What leads you to that conclusion? Which questions were hard to answer?

This will create an email to send. If your computer is not set up to send email from a web page, it won't work.
