New and Improved Religion

by Carey Scott

It is amazing that just about every product that has ever been sold has evolved into a more new and improved product. The marketing firms have convinced the manufacturers that unless they have new and improved printed on their products; they will not sell as many.

But what does new and improved mean? Does it mean the former product was inferior and not that good? Did these people ever think that we like the product the way it was? Does anyone remember what happened when Coca Cola came out with “New Coke?" The stuff was horrible, and the company received thousands upon thousands of letters telling how the new was worse. Next thing we know we had Classic Coke. We were happy, and Coca Cola was raking in the cash and market share.

There are some things that do not need to be improved. When you have a perfect product, how can you improve it? You can’t, but that does not stop people from trying to improve it (or change it). Psalm 19:7 reads that the “Law of the Lord is perfect …” If it is perfect, how can it be made newer or improved? It can’t. II Peter 1:3 tells us that everything we need pertaining to life and immortality are given to us in the Bible. So why do we need anything newer than the Bible?

So why do people think that they can improve on God’s plan? Why do they try to make the church improved? They cannot improve the church or God’s plan. All they can do is try to convince people that their product is better than the others. Let’s face it, if we go to the store to buy a product and you have a choice between the regular or a new and improved product, which do you choose? Most people will choose the new and improved one even though the products are identical with the exception of the label).

The church that Jesus built cannot be improved upon, so what changes can man make to improve it? None, but that does not stop people from changing what God has already given to us. The Bible warns about adding to or taking away from God’s word. Changing the meaning of God’s words should not be treated any differently.

It is still wrong and sinful.

A lot of churches go for the frills and try to capture people with games and entertainment. They water down the gospel to tell people they are saved when they are not, and they teach that one can continue in sin and still be right with God. This new and improved religion is dangerous and people will go to hell because of it. Let us go back to the Bible and stay there. Come and visit us and see the respect we pay to the scriptures and God’s teachings.

God is not willing that any perish (II Peter 3:9). You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), you must confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning how to serve God (IIPeter 3:18). Let us help you on your spiritual journey. May God bless you in your study of His word.
