Question:

Hello

I read a post that a young boy was sad about sinning and kept returning to the sin that he hates doing. I was baptize as an adult several years ago, but after that it seems that I'm lost even more then before being baptized. I would like get up one day and be happy to feel Jesus with me, be kind and help other do what Jesus wants me to do. I want to feel his presence. How can I feel this? Did I do the baptism right? What's my calling that Jesus plans for me?What do I need to do to get what I'm looking for?

Thank you.

Answer:

"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked" (I John 2:3-6).

"Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me"" (John 14:23-24).

I almost get the impression that you saw becoming a Christian would make you do what needs to be done. Being a Christian is about surpressing my own will to do the will of the Father. "Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" (James 4:4-10).

The feelings come as a result of doing God's will and knowing you are pleasing Him. I don't know what you are struggling with, but if you would like help, let me know.
