I have commited adultery on my husband. He has since died. If I marry the man that I commited adultery with, am I free to marry him? He is single. He knew I was married at the time this happened. Is he an adulterer? If we decide to marry will God recognize and accept this marriage?
"For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man" (Romans 7:2-3).
After the death of a spouse, a person can remarry. Both you and he had committed adultery. You did not mention and I don't know if the two of you have sought out God's forgiveness regarding this past matter. The guilt of what you had done may still be unresolved. However, marrying this man, now that your husband is dead, is not a sin.
