Question:

I roam around with agloomy expression most of the time. I remember her a lot, and I miss her too much. Whenever I see a couple I feel the absence of her. Is there any thing that I could do to forget all these things and start looking forward to my future? What should I do?

Answer:

As Job noted, "If I say, 'I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face and wear a smile'" (Job 9:27). You can't change how you look until you change what you are thinking about. A part of the problem is that you've lost hope. You don't think there will be someone else. If you are following after God, then you have to learn to put your trust in God. He will take care of things to make all work out for the best. "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God" (Psalms 42:11).

Life is full of good and bad things. Because of events, you are focusing on the bad things. Instead, purposely focus on the good. "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -- meditate on these things" (Philippians 4:8). When you see a couple, tell yourself that God has blessed them well and that one day you look forward to a similar blessing.

Hello sir,

Thank you. Thanks a million times, sir. What you have said is true, I have lost the hope of good things in life. I am thinking of changing myself and my beliefs completely. I am thinking of joining an ashram near where I stay. The preachings given there have changed many people's lives. I have heard this from many of my friends. Last week I lost the job I had. I am in search of a new job now. Losing my job also has broken me. My parents are worried over my marriage possibilities. I don't know about my future. I don't want to spoil any girl's future with mine by marrying her. I don't know what to do. Please help.

And how is hiding in a Hindu monastery going to improve your future? Hinduism is a false, idolatrous religion. I assume you see yourself as a Christian at the moment, but you aren't following Christ's teachings fully. You are focused on the past and things of this world. "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14).

Hiding from God and man is not going to improve your life -- not that you can truly hide from God. It won't find you a new job. It won't find you a better woman to be your wife. Those things take getting out into the world.
