Question:You helped me earlier†with a problem I was having at work. (Thanks again)
So I was wondering if I could ask you to†assist me with another problem that has recently†come up.
I divorced my husband due to his†adultery.† He remarried and now he and his new wife have a son.† My ex-husband has been communicating, through our daughter, that he has made a mistake to divorce me.† He wants to divorce his current wife in order to pursue a relationship with me.† My ex-husband is aware that I do not want to have any contact or communication with him.†
My mother recently told me that even though I divorced this man, according to the gospel I can not marry another man so why not take him up on his offer. I should forgive him, pray about it then remarry him.
Is she crazy or right?
Your mother doesn't know her scriptures well. Jesus stated, "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery" (Matthew 19:9). Implied in this statement is that the one not guilty of adultery is free to remarry if they so choose. Since your ex-husband was the one guilty of adultery, he did not have the right to marry again. He is currently living in adultery with another woman.
Whether you decide to remarry him, someone else, or remain single is completely up to you.
